SOLO RECITAL - KIM HUNTER (NZ)
In this recital I will be presenting the first movement of Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra by Henri Tomasi and Sequenza IXb by Luciano Berio. Presenting the works of Tomasi and Berio together shows two very different sides to performance; the romantic and lyrical voice of the concerto soloist and the measured and almost medical sterility of serialism. Where melodies in Tomasi's Concerto are constantly passed between soloist and accompaniment, Berio leaves the audience and performer to absorb the silence of the room, often unsure when they will be next at the mercy of the dynamic range of the performer.
